Population

The Bay City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ decreased from 119,339 in 1970 to 107,771 in 2010. That was a decrease of 9.7 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population decreased from 2,188 in 1970 to 1,657 in 2010. That was a decrease of 24.3 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.8 percent to 1.5 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) decreased by 9.4 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. There was a population drop in all periods, and natural change (B-D) was the principal factor adding population in the first two periods, replaced by NIM as the sole factor adding population in the most recent period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the relative factors adding population remained the same.
